The black walnut tree is a rare, fine-grained hardwood, native to New England. Black walnut wood is prized for its strength, deep rich color, and straight grain. Symbolically, the black walnut tree represents wisdom, knowledge and inspiration. Sustainably sourced, upcycled, and handcrafted in New England.

Materials

Due to the material and hand-made nature, each may vary in sizing and color slightly and no two will be exactly the same.

Care

Hand wash. Apply mineral oil once a month to maintain the natural beauty of the wood. Beeswax conditioners help prevent wood from drying out as well as from absorbing too much moisture. Prolonged exposure to water can cause damage; please do not submerge in water or place in the dishwasher or oven.

About Peterman's Boards & Bowls

Artisan Workshop Made in USA

Peterman’s Boards & Bowls transforms salvaged New England hardwoods into heirloom-quality woodenware designed for everyday use. Founded by Spencer and Michele Peterman, the company pioneered the practice of rescuing fallen and discarded trees that would otherwise become firewood or mulch, giving each piece a second life. Crafted from locally sourced maple, cherry, walnut, and other regional woods, every bowl and board celebrates the natural character of the material, including unique grain patterns, spalting, and organic imperfections. The result is functional, one-of-a-kind kitchenware that reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship, sustainability, and the forests of New England.
